Clinical Expertise

Dr. Wright is a licensed clinical psychologist with over ten years of experience and expertise in treating PTSD, depression, anxiety disorders, addictive behaviors, post-traumatic growth and resilience, coping with grief, and management of and consultation around risk issues. Dr. Wright enjoys delivering evidence-based treatments for a variety of concerns and tailoring therapy to the individual’s needs utilizing a flexible, validating, and client-centered approach. She’s passionate about collaborating with each client to determine the optimal therapeutic journey and enjoys the process whether the client prefers a targeted, structured approach, a more open, exploratory approach, or a combination of both. This depends on the preferences and best interest of the client, therapeutic relationship and treatment goals. She strives to create a therapeutic space that is both supportive and challenging to help loosen areas where clients may feel stuck, and she engages patients warmly with a touch of humor and irreverence where appropriate. She enjoys accompanying clients on the journey to improved self-awareness, emotional acceptance and flexibility, and better functioning by incorporating coping techniques, mindfulness, and values-oriented activities to improve mood and quality of life.

Training

Dr. Wright received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Boston University. She completed her predoctoral internship at the Boston Consortium in Clinical Psychology at the VA Boston Healthcare System, where she held academic appointments as a Clinical Fellow in Psychology within the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and Teaching Fellow in Psychiatry, Boston University School of Medicine. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship at the San Francisco VA Medical Center. Both positions focused on treating PTSD and co-occurring disorders in the Veteran population, and she has worked in a variety of settings (outpatient, inpatient, residential care, primary care) with a range of presenting clinical issues. She has expertise in a variety of modalities including CBT (for depression, anxiety, suicidality, insomnia, relapse prevention), Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, the Unified Protocol, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Prolonged Exposure, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. She joins Cambridge Psychology Group after many years in public service as a staff psychologist and Program Manager at VA Boston Healthcare System and held an academic appointment of Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Boston University.

Research and Teaching

Dr. Wright’s research prior to and during graduate school focused on motivational interviewing in primary care settings, and how best to engage clients and promote therapeutic change. She was actively involved in clinical teaching in her previous role, focusing on risk assessment, risk mitigation strategies, and supporting loss survivors. She enjoys teaching seasoned mental health clinicians, brand-new students, clinicians of all disciplines, and any person or organization with an interest in learning about mental health care, suicide prevention, or how best to help someone in distress and has also done teaching in the community for non-profits, VA affiliates, and homelessness programs.

Hobbies

Dr. Wright believes finding joy amidst life’s challenges and cultivating fun in one’s life is critical to good health. She enjoys challenging herself to be “new” at something, whether it’s a language, dusting off the old bicycle, trying a new skill, or a new craft. She enjoys spending time with friends and family, tending to her plants and furry friends, and finding green spaces to explore.
