Clinical Expertise
Dr. Klein’s psychotherapy approach is rooted in using research supported cognitive and behavioral techniques within a framework that flexibly accounts for client motivation, comorbidity, and severity of symptoms. Dr. Klein is well versed in recovery model treatment and use of psychosocial rehabilitation principles to help clients both decrease their mental health symptoms, but also reintegrate into their communities, achieve their goals, and align with their values. Dr. Klein works to help foster resilience and increase hope, while using evidence-based cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) techniques. Dr. Klein’s primary areas of expertise include treatment of depression, bipolar disorder, psychotic spectrum disorders, personality disorders, and co-morbid substance use disorders.

In service of ethically responsible and client-centered practice, Dr. Klein is committed to addressing how diversity factors and psychosocial disparities impact client care. Dr. Klein works with clients to understand how biological, social, cultural, and psychological factors interact to influence their current difficulties, as well as strengths, and identify associated treatment goals.
Training
Dr. Klein received a BS in psychology and a BS in biological sciences from the University of Maryland, College Park. Dr. Klein then completed her MS and PhD in clinical psychology at Florida State University. She completed a one-year clinical internship at the Edward Hines Jr., VA Hospital in Chicago, IL. She completed a one-year specialized postdoctoral fellowship at the Bedford VA Healthcare System; the focus of this fellowship was on interdisciplinary treatment of severe mental illness using a psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery framework. Dr. Klein is currently employed in the Boston area as an inpatient unit psychologist and also serves in an instructor role at Harvard University Medical School, Department of Psychiatry.
